SCSA April 3rd Statement to Recreational Families RE: COVID-19
by posted 04/03/2020

ATTN: SCSA Recreational Community

In an effort to keep our members informed, we would like to provide you with the following information regarding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and how we are making adjustments in an effort to maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Please know that we are constantly monitoring the situation and the impact it is having on our community. We are following the guidelines of the Indiana Soccer Association, our State Government, Gov. Holcomb, and the CDC. Here are the following mandates for each of those organizations:

All of this said, we are still hoping to get in a Recreational Season. We will continue to monitor the situation and let everyone know the plan as soon as we're given the green light. We will have more information come April 15th.

In the meantime and while we wait to get back outside, we'd like to offer your player some awesome activities that you can do at home (and maybe some sanity for mom and dad ;-) )!

  • Check out our “Soccer at Home!” webpage. We’ll be updating this constantly throughout the next few months with some awesome activities for your player!
  • Tune in to watch our Facebook Live - Tuesday Talks as we answer questions and highlight our online initiatives. ("Like" our page so you’re notified on Tuesday!)

Again, the health and safety of our community are our top priority and we appreciate your partnership in keeping our athletes and coaches safe. Just to reiterate, we will still be looking to have a Recreational Season. More information to come on April 15th. Also, check out our March 24th Tuesday Talk with our Executive Director, President, and Assistant Director of Coaching.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Beau  .

Thanks!

-Your SCSA Staff

Additional Information:

Why is social distancing important? Here is a visual as to how such an effort affects the spread of the virus.

While there is currently no vaccine for COVID-19, the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed. Here is what you can do to help! As with any other illness, we ask that you stay at home if your child is coughing, sneezing, or has had a fever within the last 24 hours. Soccer at Home App - CLICK HERE (Free App created by Vince Ganzberg United Soccer Coaches Education Content Coordinator)

Best of 10 Soccer Challenge App - CLICK HERE (Free App created by Vince Ganzberg United Soccer Coaches Education Content Coordinator)

Weekly - FB Live sessions from Coach Nick Hargett - Starting the week of April 6th.

1. Click on - Player Tools to take you to the Red Bulls Youth Academy website that has a number of different skills sessions to work on during the break from home.

CLICK HERE for the Red Bulls Homework Scorecard to keep track of your progress.

2. Watch soccer! We realize no live games are being played.

Here are some tips from iSoccer that you can use to learn from watching:

  •  Pick a player: Choose a player you really like, or who plays your position, and focus on what they are doing throughout the game. What do they do well? What do they do without the ball?
  •  Pick a skill: Focus on one area of the game like one touch passing or how their bodies are shaped when they receive the ball. How does one team organize themselves at the back, or the other team pressure in the midfield?
  •  Off the ball: Instead of following the ball the whole game, spend some time watching what players are doing off the ball. How are they supporting their teammates, making runs, or tracking back?

Here are a few of my suggestions for finding full matches:

Old matches from the last several decades.

Premier League from this season.

Past USA matches

3. CLICK HERE for a technical workout from our Technical Director Shaun Mahoney. This can be done on your own, with a partner or small group. If you have access to a wall in which the ball can be played off of, even better. EVERY player on the team can become better doing these things. Let us know if you have any questions.

4. We have been in contact with the founder of Beast Mode Soccer David Copeland-Smith.  He is offering their app at a half off rate to provide the players additonal training resources.  Details below.

Here is what you will have to do to get the app at the discounted rate:

* Players will have to go here: https://app.mysoccertraining.com/register to register. Once that is done, they will be taken to the payment page.
* Fill in credit card as usual, but enter the discount code BMSCV2020
* The discount code will not work if they use PayPal, so no PayPal for this!
* Start using the app!

Please remind players that the $10 is monthly and recurring.

5. A couple great books for any player, parent or coach by Joshua Medcalf are attached as well. Vince Ganzberg recommended Chop Wood Carry Water to our coaches in December and it is a great read.  The author, Joshua Medcalf, shared a free copy of Pound the Stone this week to those that wanted a copy on twitter.  Looking forward to reading it over the next week.

Pound_The_Stone__PDF_Version_for_Dropbox.pdf
Chop_Wood_Carry_Water__How_to_Fall_in_Love_with_the_Process_of_Becoming_Great__PDFDrivecom_.pdf

We will be adding more things over the course of the break.  If you have any requests on what you would like to see please email your suggestions to our DOC Matt Wilhoit at  .
